Jenny Craig Diet Review

I have been on a diet for as long as I can remember, I am always trying (and failing) to loose weight.  It really is quite pathetic! So when I was offered the chance to test out Jenny Craig’s Diet plan I was eager to give it a go.

The idea is that they supply you with all the food you need and all you do is add the vegetables, drinks and milk.  It sounded like my idea of heaven if i am honest.  Being a vegetarian I often cook separate food for me, so two weeks of not cooking two dinners sounded like a great idea for me!

I was given an initial consultation over the phone and discussed the menu options and my food arrived a few days later.  I was impressed at the amount of food that was sent, I was expecting a lot less.  There was a selection of meals and snacks to have in-between.  I had to add vegetable and salad and a few extras but it is all pretty much there for you.

For the first few days I did really well, but the downside was I could not stop thinking about food! The meals I had were filling and tasty, I loved the soup it really was delicious.  But my diet head just left me constantly craving what I couldn’t have.

The tuna pasta above was tasty and filling as was the vegetable pasta dish below.

After a few days on the diet I came across some foods I did not like at all, which really put me off.  After speaking with my Jenny Craig consultant again I re-planned my menu and took out some of the foods I was not so keen on and continued with the diet plan.  My Jenny Craig consultant was lovely, really helpful and very positive about everything even when I said I hadn’t managed to stick to the diet for the whole week she encouraged me and helped me find a way around all the obstacles I had faced.

There were some downsides to the programme for me, I am a vegetarian and I felt the selection of food available for vegetarians was limited, if you were on the plan longer term I think it could easily become repetitive.  I also LOVE cooking and not preparing meals for myself was frustrating as I still had to cook for everyone else. However at times when the children were out it was so easy to prepare my meals as it was all done for me.

I did learn a lot from the programme –

  • My portion sizes are way out, they are much bigger than they need to be.
  • I don’t eat regularly enough.  I don’t always have breakfast and if I do I will often skip lunch and then overeat at dinner time because I am so hungry.  By regulating my meals I did feel a lot more energised.
  • I need to eat more fruit and vegetables.
  • I can loose weight when I put mind to it (I lost 5 lb over the 2 weeks!).

I was sent two weeks worth of food for the Jenny Craig diet for review purposes. This is my honest opinion on my experience of the product. I did not receive any financial reward for writing this post.
