What I Learnt at Brit Mums Live 2012

Well what a weekend it has been! I have learnt so much, met so many wonderful people and generally had a ball! BritMums Live really did have it all in my opinion.  Fantastic key-note speakers combined with a great line up of sessions which added together made for a very exciting weekend.

So what did I learn I hear you all cry?

Well where do I start…….

Twitter

I have totally and utterly fallen in love with Twitter this weekend.  If I am honest I have never really got it before. Until now. I have been tweeting like  a crazy lady for most of the weekend and have loved every minute of it! I think this might be the start of a beautiful relationship…….

Technical Knowledge

It is no secret that I have about as much technical knowledge as a bit of wood.  In fact to be fair the wood probably knows more.  I am rubbish, I have no idea about anything. Well, so I thought! I decided to go to the Advanced WordPress session with the lovely Julie Hall and was surprised about how much I am actually doing right! Having said that there was also a lot I am not doing and I really need to get my brian into gear and find out how this little web page of mine actually works and make sure I use it properly.

I can’t hide away from it anymore its time to get a bit geeky and start to learn. It’s for my own good, apparently!

Community

The Blogging community is filled with helpful, kind and lovely people.  I get so nervous going anywhere where I don’t know anyone, but I really needn’t have worried.  Everyone was friendly, lovely and helpful.

My favourite session was the ‘Bloggers’ Studio: Crossing the Chasm, how to bring your blog up to the next level.’  I chose that session as it was being hosted by some of my favourite bloggers who I follow and read regularly so I was excited about seeing what advice they offered.  I wasn’t disappointed! The advice given in this sessions was so valuable and from some very down to earth ‘real’ bloggers.  I found it so helpful to listen to them and their very different opinions. I thought the session was brilliantly done and gained a lot from it.

I spend a huge amount of time, reading blog posts.  I am a nosy person so love to read all about other people lives, but when it comes down to leaving a comment, I am not so great.  Usually what I want to say has already been said by someone else, or sounds stupid when I write it down.  All bloggers love getting comments, so I am going to be spreading some blogging love and making sure I leave more comments on the amazing blogs that I read. However please do feel free to tell me if they sound as silly to you as they do me sometimes – I won’t be offended I promise!

Finding My Voice

I feel sometimes I hold back from writing about things I want to write about and I have even questioned whether I should have been anonymous from the start.  Everyone knows that I blog and a lot of my friends and family read my blog and sometimes I think this makes me hold back a bit.

The main message I have taken away from this weekend is to be true to yourself.  Write about what you want to write about not what you think people want to hear. This to me is the most important message and one I intend to remember throughout my blogging journey!

My mind is still whirring over the whole weekend and I am sure I will post more later in the week, there is so much to say! I haven’t even touched on the lovely massage, the yummy Prosecco or the wine buffs yet….but I will leave that for another post!

For now I am home and back to work, I have swapped my lovely new handbag for my trusted tatty looking changing bag, the London Tubes for the school run and a comfy hotel bed for a sleepless night at home with an unsettled little man! Yep I am back to being Mummy again!  Until next year that is! BritMums Live 2013 – I can’t wait!

In the mean time though, if you need me you can find me on Twitter…… Yes I am addicted!
